"First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you."

— F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

“Peter! …Peter!... Peter !!...”

Rose smacking the door and screaming out. Nothing but silence answered her screams. She repeatedly hit, until a middle-aged man crawled out of bed, stepping unevenly, falling and rising to open.

“What happened? Why are you crying?”

“Aunt fell unconscious again. Her blood pressure is fluctuating. She is not waking up. I have been hitting this damn door for an hour.”

“Oh shit! Did you call the ambulance?” Peter asked, readjusting himself to the present world while pressing his head hard out of headache.

“All lines were disconnected. A person answered that all main roads were jammed”. Rose after taking a deep breathe, says "you have to drive now in .”

“Goddamn city! Not a single road is good.” Peter cursing the city while driving through garbage and flooded roads.

Rose sits shivering at the back seat with her aunt in her laps.” Why don't you drive fast? Her pulse is falling.“ Rose sobbing in fear.

“Don't cry. Please. Don't. I'm driving.”

The hospital was almost empty when they finally arrived, except a few patients, receptionist, and a chemist.

Peter immediately called someone on his phone. In a few seconds, two people rushed out with a wheel bed.” What happened?” One of them asked Peter which sounded like they knew the lady and her condition already.

They took her in, leaving Peter and Rose outside the Critical Unit.

“How long its been raining?” Peter asked, lighting his cigar. Rose immediately pulled and put it off giving him a stern look.

He took another one and took a few puffs before Rose came back after talking to the receptionist at the Entrance.

After some minutes, a person from  inside came to Peter and said “Piyush sir is waiting for you in his cabin.”

“How's  she now?” Peter asked immediately after entering the cabin.

“You almost lost her goddamit. You almost lost her.” Piyush said in low voice clearing his throat. “She was just minutes away. If this happens again, then she may not survive.”

Peter swept his forehead. “Peter, look at me. Did you loose your limit again? Why don't you just quit this !? Why are you making Rose's effort to rehabilitate you go in vain; It has been a year now. Why don't you just let it go off you? It's certain that uncle won't come back, he's gone forever, neither your company would. Quit this alcohol and drugs man. At least for Rose, you are all, what she have now. One more mistake from your side can kill you and your mother.”

Tears roll out of Rose's eyes. She recalls everything; how happier they were. Starting from those college days when they were in love. Their journey, how they built their empire, and how they lost it. Everything that she could remember.

Sometimes, it's best to put the glass down.

Alcohol makes people emotional. Sad, depressed, anxious, happy, or even frustrated. Large intake may cause numbness, imbalance of hormones, memory loss, ulcer, decreased concentration, etc.

Alcohol consumption releases a happy hormone called Endorphin. The more alcohol, the more endorphin. Endorphins are synthesized by the pituitary glands and the central nervous system. So, most of the diseases due to alcohol consumption are related to nervous system and brain. Actually, endorphins are like natural painkillers and mood boosters produced by our own body. When you drink or even when you exercise, endorphin is released which will interact with the brain receptors to reduce the perception of pain. This is the reason why people feel relaxed and say that they will forget all the pain.

Anyone at any age can have drinking problems. Side effects and diseases may differ, depending on the age. The complication will be more for the golden age people and for pregnant women

Despite aging, the water content in our body will be down. In that case, if the intake of alcohol is same as they were in the middle age, the alcohol concentration rises. Alcohol shows the worst effects in teens. Damages brain functioning and central nervous system. Teens who drink are more likely to have poor impulse control, which may lead to violence or risky sexual behavioral problems. Even they lose their emotional control and capacity of decision making.

When it comes to kids, who starts drinking even before 15years will lack memory and learning skills

During pregnancy, drinking alcohol is not that safe. The first two weeks following fertilization, excessive alcohol consumption does not generally have a negative impact on the zygote and the emerging pre-embryo. From the third week after the fertilization, as it is a crucial stage where embryo develops rapidly, alcohol consumption may affect the developing embryo. Alcohol present in the mother's blood will reach the baby through the umbilical cord, Which leads to stillbirths, abnormal physical behavior. In scientific knowledge, these disabilities are known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders i.e, FASDs. Even if u decide to drink, your intake should not be more than 100ml.

We have many rehabilitation centers in the cities. Rehab facilities will help the patients to recover from substance use disorders. This treatment helps them to make positive changes and learn healthy coping skills, impulse control, and emotion regulation skills. This is the best therapy.
